Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

My name is J.L. Hylton, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Tygart Creek Elementary. I am honored to join this incredible school community, and I am eager to begin working with each of you.

This will be my twelfth year in education. I have taught elementary music, middle school music and band, high school arts and humanities and band, and I served as the assistant principal the last 2 years at Rowan County Middle School. My wife teaches 4th grade special education at Olive Hill Elementary and we have one 8 year old daughter named Norah.

Prior to the last 2 years at Rowan County Middle school I spent 8 years at West Carter Middle School and West Carter High School. I have always said that Carter County has the best students, families, and educators anyone could ever ask to work with. I can’t begin to express how excited I am to meet you all and work with everyone.

My previous roles as a teacher and administrator have provided me with a deep understanding of the importance of collaboration, innovation, and compassion in education. I am committed to building on the strong foundation already in place at Tygart Creek Elementary School and to furthering our mission of the standard of excellence.

I believe that open communication and strong partnerships between home and school are vital to the success of our students. I look forward to getting to know each of you and working together to support our students in reaching their full potential. My door is always open, and I encourage you to reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have.

Together, we will continue to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment where every child feels valued and empowered to achieve their best.
